Changing Up Our Message Center

My crafty side was feeling the urge to come out this week, and so I obliged and now we have a little update to share.

Here's a little spot in our house that you might remember:

That's our sweet little free secretary desk I painted a while back.  It's been doing great these days, in case anyone was wondering.  A few months ago it even got a little message board buddy to hang out with.

This was just a little cork board I whipped up one day with an old frame, some cork tiles and scrap fabric.

I literally just mounted the cork tiles on top of cardboard back of the frame.

Anyway, this little cork board, message area was looking a little blah to me so I decided to jazz it up a bit.  So out came the jute twine and a wrapping I went.  I wrapped and wrapped that frame until I had this:

I was really digging it but thought I could add a bit more so I did this:

What am I doing here...wait -isn't it obvious?

So I decided to spray paint a box of tacks navy blue, because it's the cool thing to do and everyone is doing it - ok maybe just I'm doing it.  I picked up a box of 300 brassy thumbtacks and the local dollar store, sprayed a little primer first and then a few coats of navy blue paint.  Then I stuck every-one-those-little-thumbtacks around the perimeter of my newly twined cork board and lost all the feeling in my index finger - it's slowly regaining it's strength.  And here it is:

I like the little navy detail and I love the added texture and substance this new framed cork board has.  I also found this cute little frame at Target this week on clearance for $2.98.  It has just enough coral in it to work here.

I also added this little milk glass vase that my mom found for me and threw in some berries from a bush in our yard.

And....we have our new little message center space!

In case you were wondering where the white board calendar went - I mounted it to the fridge, much more practical and easy to use and see.

Oh look, it has it's first message, how sweet.

Thanks for joining us today for a little random craftiness.  You know you want to go and spray paint some thumbtacks now right?

Have a great weekend!

  10. LOVE this! How creative! I love the name of your blog. We just bought a huge fixer-upper and are doing some major major renovations. It's a time consuming process and pretty frustrating at times. I love finding blogs of other ladies that can feel my pain LOL. I'm a new follower from over at the Blooming Daisy! *xo*
